The mini-proposal is divided into three sections:

1.       Specific Aims (one page) of your proposal is where you introduce your research question/ hypothesis: it is a brief introduction where you: (a) identify a Problem/Critical Need, (b) propose a solution by disclosing the steps (2-3 specific aims) to be taken to address the critical need and (c) the significance of your study, i.e., the innovation, expectations, and importance to science. These must be approved by the faculty member and/or me.

2.      Introduction and Background (5 pages). This portion will contain: (a) the Background/Significance (i.e., why your research question must be addressed, stats are critical here), (b) Preliminary Studies – the data/findings others have uncovered as it relates to your question and (c) your innovative solution.

3.      Approach (4 pages). Herein contains the proposed experiments in detail and includes any animal studies. The approach is designed to generate experimental results that would answer the research question/innovative solution you propose. The expected results should also be disclosed in this section.
